Muie Croft Wetland Creation two years in...

Just over two years ago we delivered a wetland creation project for the owners of Muie Croft, a Northwoods Rewilding Network partner, with funding from Highland Council's Nature Restoration Fund.

The project entailed the construction of wetland areas in strategic positions in the floodplain of the River Fleet, sensitively landscaping all of the arisings locally. Significant areas of standing water were created, the level of which ebb and flow with the water table. A variety of habitats have formed as a result of the accumulation of river sands, steep and shallow sloping margins and other natural processes which have been kickstarted by the works.

Commenting, Sam Hesling of McGowan Environmental, said: "The quality of the project delivery is testament to the skills of our machine operators and the collaborative working relationship with the owners of Muie Croft, and the SCOTLAND: The Big Picture-co-ordinated Northwoods Rewilding Network."
