Allt a’Mharcaidh River Restoration completed

Our works on the Allt a’Mharcaidh River Restoration Project are Complete! 

Take a watercourse which has been historically straightened for floating logs and… turn it into this. For the last few weeks we have been busy with our two of our state-of-the-art Volvo excavators, tractor and dump trailer and tracked dumper delivering a river restoration project on the Allt a’Mharcaidh for RSPB, Cairngorm Connect and Forestry and Land Scotland. 

We installed a number of large wood structures of various sizes to encourage deposition of sediment and raise the river bed, and we excavated to reconnect the relict channel and provide several backwater features.  The watercourse is now returned to its historic course, very visible in these splendid photos courtesy of our friends James Shooter and SCOTLAND: The Big Picture.
