As part of the implementation of the Corriegarth Wind Farm Habitat Management Plan, McGowan carried out a large scale innovative programme of work to restore suitable hydrological conditions for blanket bog regeneration and revegetation across 65 hectares within the wind farm development area, which also supports an active grouse moor.

The work consisted of the formation of gully blocks by low ground pressure excavators using on site materials including sub-soil, peat and vegetation to slow down water movement and establish localised areas of standing water. Due to challenging ground conditions some of the work was carried out by hand using materials imported by helicopter.

In summary the work included:

• Formation of 5000no machine gully blocks
• Formation of 600no stone gully blocks imported by helicopter
• Formation of 2000no hand gully blocks using coir logs and plastic piling
